Saturday design sessions began with participants splitting off to take walking tours of Main Street, and surrounding areas. As they walked, stakeholders explained the status and significance of sites, pointing out the places they cherished or most wanted to change.
Upon return to Weldon E. Howitt Middle School, participants reported on their experiences to the other groups. After a question and answer period, a Visual Preference Survey was administered. The result of this survey will help the design team understand what participants would like to see in their community.
Supplied with a variety of aerial photos and plenty of magic markers, community members then were then given the opportunity to put their ideas to paper. Working together, they drew in trees, and ways to make safer streets; farmers markets, and day laborer sites. After a long period of design, the groups presented their ideas to each other.
VISION's design team then worked through a blizzare to take these designs and the results of the other exercises, assembling them into a collective vision for the Village of Farmingdale. This vision was presented to the community for its review on Wednesday, February 15th at 7:00pm.
