2008 Smart Growth Awards

Thanks to all of our sponsors, honorees, and participants for a fantastic 7th Smart Growth Awards. It was a great success, with nearly 700 attendees. The luncheon was led by our Master of Ceremonies, Drew Scott, who, in addition to our honorees and keynote speaker, Richard Kessel, made for an entertaining and educational afternoon.

The luncheon recognized the Smart Growth projects and people that are pushing our region forward. These honorees included Richard Kessel for Clean Energy and Regional Leadership, Urbitran and the City of Glen Cove for the Glen Cove Ferry Terminal, AvalonBay Communities for Glen Cove North, Diana Coleman, Polimeni Associates for The Winston in Mineola, Greenview Properties and Gene Murphy for Chelsea Place in Bay Shore, Vintage Group for Vintage Square in Riverhead, Save the Forge River, Rosalie Norton and the West Hempstead Civic Association, and the Village of Baxter Estates and Condeco Development for 299 Main Street.

A special thanks to the APA Long Island Chapter, Long Island Progressive Coalition, Greater Gordon Heights Civic Association, Town of Islip, Town of Brookhaven, Dowling College, EOC of Nassau County and Steve Meehan, Landscape Architect for their support and dedication.

While we recover from Thursday’s success, we look forward to our next big event-The Smart Growth Summit on November 13th, 2008.
