The Smart Growth Awards annually recognizes the people, projects and policies that are working to advance quality growth and preservation on Long Island. Honorees will embrace one or more of the following Smart Growth Principles:

Arverne by the Sea is a large-scale mixed-use project that has successfully been constructed.

Taking Advantage of Compact Building Design: Oak Street Plaza, Copaigue, Town of Babylon
These mixed-use structures exemplify compact building design principles as well as a larger adjustment to public transportation.

Mr. Duggan has made large strides for the County in helping people find  places to live.

peconic land trust Preserving Open Space, Farmland, Natural Beauty, Historic Buildings, and Critical Environmental Areas: Peconic Land Trust
The organization works tirelessly towards conservation of land while protecting property rights of farmers and other property owners.

Reinvesting in and Strengthening Existing Communities: Suffolk Community College, Riverhead, Sayville

The College has created two downtown campus centers, one in Sayville and one in Riverhead, utilizing existing structures and adding to the appeal of the already vibrant downtowns.

SEEDS has worked tirelessly to improve public transportation on the East End of Long Island for years by coordinating land use and transportation planning systems.

The efforts of the Village of Roslyn have turned out a pro-Smart Growth Master Plan incorporating housing that has gained governmental and public support.

Andreaus has used his fame to better his community of Roosevelt, with the development of a community center, a public access TV show, a comedy club and fosters for major community events.
