Dear Friends, I am pleased to have this opportunity to send greetings to each of you attending Smart Growth 2003. This summit builds on the legislative and policy initiatives established during previous Summits. Through your efforts today, the opportunities for economic development and investments are broadened. In order to stimulate economic growth and entrepreneurship, there must be incentives for businesses, including innovative land use and development and sound transportation policies. By participating in this Summit, you recognize the imprtance county and town officials and business development and non-profit leaders have in enhancing smart growth development. Partnerships among the federal, state and local governments, the public and private sectors, and business and labor are more important than they have ever been. The proposals created from the workshops and interactive sessions can be implemented to benefit the entire development community. Please accept my berst wishes for a productive and successful summit.
